Consumers are accessing video on TV, mobile and PC. Call it "everywhere video" or "over-the-top TV.”  By any name it means that content is accessible virtually everywhere.  The proliferation of TV technologies are pushing video to an unlimited audience.

Kevin Westcott, US Media and Entertainment Sector Leader, Deloitte Consulting LLP: Kevin is a principal and leads the US Media and Entertainment practice. He

has over 25 years of experience in strategic and operational planning, as well

as implementing global business change and technology projects for major media organizations. His industry experience spans Film, TV, Home Entertainment, Broadcasting, Publishing, Licensing, Games and Production. During past client engagements, Kevin has worked on transforming and implementing new business models, helping clients to monitize their assets and assisting start ups to effectively enter the marketplace and be successful. Additionally, Kevin leads industry programs for his clients across the international Media & Entertainment industry, both domestically and globally, including digital product strategy, distribution and supply chain for entertainment companies. He also has led industry programs including rights licensing and management and marketing effectiveness. Kevin is an author of Deloitte’s Digital Democracy Survey and co-author of Deloitte’s Digital Media Maturity Model and speaks regularly on media and entertainment consumption trends. He is also a frequent speaker at The Deloitte Academy and Roybal Learning Center. Kevin places a high importance on community involvement and works to support many civic and philanthropic organizations. Kevin is on the Board of Directors for City Year Los Angeles, a national organization focused on increasing the graduation rate for at-risk students and he also serves The United Way, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Share our Shelves and many more. Kevin has a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of California, Santa Cruz.

 

Chris Carey is currently Head of Sales, Strategy and Business Development at Verizon Digital Media Services and will lead our global sales organization, including Solution Engineering and Sales Operations. Prior to re-joining the Verizon Digital Media Services team, Chris held the role of Vice President, Technology and Business Development for Verizon where he helped launch the Go90 Mobile Video Service, Verizon’s IPTV technology platform and the VR/AR Services platform “Envrnmnt”. Chris was an instrumental player in growing Verizon Digital Media Services during the company’s early development. As Chief Product Officer, he was responsible for product, profit and loss, definition, strategy, delivery and market rollout. With over 30 years of executive and strategic operations experience in the media and entertainment industries, Chris has held multiple roles that span industry wide. From Executive Vice President Worldwide, Technical Operations at Paramount Pictures to Chief Technology and Marketing Officer at Technicolor, in addition to 17 years spent at Walt Disney Studios in leadership roles, including Senior Vice President for Studio New Technology, Chris has been a key leader in the strategic and technology drivers of Hollywood’s digital revolution. Currently, Chris is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, as well as a member of the Board of Directors for: DVD Copy Control Association, DVD Forum, Blu-ray Disc Association, Digital Cinema Initiatives LLC, AACS (Advanced Access Content System), DECE/Ultraviolet (Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem). Chris is also a contributing author to “Understanding Digital Cinema A Professional Handbook” by Charles S. Swartz, as well as a named inventor for numerous U.S. patents (granted and applied for) in the digital media content formats and distribution systems field.

 

 

Rich Cusick, Chief Product Officer, Gracenote: As Chief Product Officer, Rich is responsible for the development and delivery of Gracenote products worldwide. Previously, Rich was General Manager of Video for Gracenote and Tribune Media Services (TMS), which merged in 2014 following Tribune’s acquisition of Gracenote from Sony. Prior to joining Gracenote, Rich was Vice President of Entertainment and Women’s Lifestyles at Yahoo! where he more than doubled original content and spearheaded the launch of new entertainment properties through partnerships with CBS. Rich has served in a variety of general management, strategic planning and business development positions at Rovi Corporation, which acquired Gemstar-TV Guide. As SVP and General Manager of Digital Media, he increased annual online revenue by more than $20MM and grew traffic by 40 percent in two years. Rich earned a BA in history from Harvard University, an MPhil from Cambridge University and a JD and MBA from The Ohio State University.

 

Fabian Birgfeld, founder and partner, W12 Studios: Fabian Birgfeld is founder and partner of W12 Studios. The agency was founded in 2012 in London with a strong focus on media and technology. W12 Studios has developed comprehensive design systems for the big screen, delivering content across the device ecosystem and has helped shape entirely new digital content formats for markets across the globe. W12 Studios' clients include Intel, Microsoft, NOS, Red Bull, Vodafone, BBC, Samsung, WatchWith, Beamly, Shazam, Verizon, and Okko among others.  Beforehand Fabian worked at frog design, Method and the BBC where he led the design teams for iPlayer, BBC News, BBC Sport and 2012 Olympics. Fabian has taught design and theory at Princeton University, Syracuse University and NJIT. His art and designs have been frequently exhibited in the US and Europe and won numerous awards. Born and raised in Germany, Fabian holds a BA in Economics from Harvard University and a graduate degree in Architecture from Princeton University.

 

Charles Segars has an industry-wide reputation for achievements in launching successful ventures including new media content start-ups, cable and satellite networks, branded entertainment, and a world renowned motion picture franchise. Mr. Segars is currently at DreamWorks Animation as a digital advisor to the senior most executives. He is involved in all aspects of DWA’s diversification into new media including content creation, distribution, and monetization through OTT and MVPD platforms. Recently, Segars launched the new YouTube/DreamWorks venture YouTube Nation and advises on other YouTube initiatives including AwesomenessTV and the upcoming DreamWorks Channel. Concurrently, Mr. Segars is also a member of the Board of Directors for Ovation TV and Ovation New Media, as well as its acting Chief Executive Officer. He was a key architect of the 2007 acquisition of the arts and culture-focused network and oversaw the re-launch and turnaround of the service. He continues to lead all strategic programming, marketing, ad sales, distribution, operations, and P & L aspects of the venture. Mr. Segars oversaw distribution growth of 45 million additional homes, the acquisition of IMF from Universal Music Group, and the building of the Ovation digital and international ventures. Additionally, Mr. Segars is founder of Segars Media, a content production company best known for Disney’s blockbuster franchise National Treasure, National Treasure: The Book Of Secrets, and soon to be released, National Treasure 3. He co-created and wrote the story for the franchise and serves as Executive Producer. Segars is a creative advisor to Levity Entertainment as well as on the board of advisors to a number of upstart content and social marketing companies. Prior, Mr. Segars was a senior executive at DreamWorks Television (EVP equivalent /no titles). There he shared responsibility for all aspects of series development, production, marketing and business affairs. Series included Spin City and Freaks & Geeks, mini-series including Steven Spielberg’s Taken, as well as a number of documentaries. He helped manage producer/writer overall deals and had oversight of the ABC TV/DreamWorks partnership. Prior to DreamWorks, Mr. Segars was Vice President of Primetime Specials and Late Night Programming at CBS Entertainment. There, Segars was a key member of the team responsible for launching the highly successful late night drama block CrimeTime After PrimeTime, Kids in the Hall, and The Late Show with David Letterman. He also oversaw all aspects of reality and news specials, as well as live event programs including The Grammy Awards, The Country Music Awards, and The Kennedy Center Honors. He has held a number of other senior executive positions including Vice President of Program Development at Viacom Productions and Executive Producer of Program Development at MovieTime/E! Entertainment Television. Mr. Segars’ involvement in digital media began when it was still called “new media” in 1999. He was a co-founder and CEO of the online site CountingDown.com, one of the premiere movie fan sites on the Internet in 1999. There, he was responsible for the launch of this self-publishing, e-commerce and community site. In this role, he oversaw marketing, operations, P & L, ad sales, and content. He orchestrated the sale of CountingDown.com to Vulcan Ventures in 2001. Segars also served as Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer at MarketRange Inc., a leading subscription and community aggregator whose properties included Perfectmatch.com. At MarketRange, Mr. Segars led a strategic partnership team that specialized in customer acquisition, marketing, and revenue generation for the Market Range suite of companies until its sale in 2007. Mr. Segars is deeply committed to public service and national security. He is currently a White House Associate leading the Advance Team for The Office of the President of the United States. Segars is also a sworn Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy and currently serves in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Emergency Operations Bureau/Dignitary Protection Unit. Additionally, Segars is co-founder of OpSec Alliance Partners where he advises companies in matters of security, crisis management, and global logistics. Mr. Segars has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and completed a graduate certificate in International Security and Policy at Stanford University in 2011. He is an active member of the WGA, Producers Guild, and INSA, and has recently joined Carnegie Mellon as an adjunct professor for its Masters of Entertainment Industry Management Program.
